Band and Music
Phurba (Tibetan, ཕུར་པ; also known as kīla in sanskrit) is a ritual dagger with three triangular blades, embodying transformative power that cuts through all obstacles and transforms negativity into enlightenment.
The instrument is not a physical weapon, but a spiritual tool, used in meditation practice. We prefer the form of Hayagriva Phurba, whose iconic horse head symbolizes untamed enlightened power—a fierce, shattering neigh of truth that pierces through ignorance.
The three of us began playing music together in 2022, in the city of Turku, Finland, initially under the working name Joyful Effort. After finding our sound, we took the name Phurba. We started recording our first songs in late 2024 / early 2025 and aimed to release our album in 2026.
So far, we’ve composed all our own songs together, starting with an idea by one of the band members and jamming together without a plan. Everyone tries out different things with their instruments, until a complete song forms in free-flowing sessions. We then record a live take, to capture the authentic feel, and add some guitar reamps and after-effects in mixing. Juhani usually incorporates vocals into the arrangement after everything else is in place, though lyrics start forming during our play sessions.
We try to do as much as we can ourselves (including things like album art, graphics design and website) and employ services from talented friends, such as studio recording by Lari Backman and mixing + mastering by Antti Mäkimurto.
No AI—all human, with friendship instead of big business.
Site and Merch
You can usually expect your purchases to arrive in about a week.
The exact time varies depending on where you are located. As our merchandise is printed on-demand, there is a slight production delay (1-3 days), after which the products are shipped immediately from the closest facility to you.
We use professional clothing providers through Printify, with printing facilities in several countries, in order to minimize shipping costs.
You can return things, if you need to. Contact the band for instructions on how to best ship the items back. We do take a personal hit with returns (unless the item was damaged or there’s a manufacturing error), so please be aware.
